Discovering a deeper connection absorbs my artistic practice. I walk and record my surroundings to explore the contrasts between macro and micro worlds. I record the conflicting differences between being absorbed with the delicacy and power of a found form contrasted or linked to the rhythms of the skies and landscape. I continually investigate how I connect to the landscape whether through memory, physically or spiritually.

As a Norfolk born Artist, I am inherently inspired by my surroundings. The constant transient nature of the landscape, quietly undulating and ever escaping skies allows me to breathe and meditate and ultimately explore a profound connection to my surroundings. Revisiting places of childhood allows me to explore the changing perspectives of time and how an ancient yet ever- changing landscape captures an agelessness.

A lifelong magpie tendency to discover and collect the slightly overlooked object whilst out walking is a constant echo within my art practice. The pockets full of these objects are inspiration that allows a connection to a place that landscape alone cannot. The micro scrutiny of these objects forces the artefact to reveal its colour and why it calls out to be taken home. Colour has always been intrinsic to all my work and often I love the exploration of what truly is in those colours and I entice them out to create connections on a deeper level.

The collision of the macro and micro worlds within my work is often subtle. The threads of colour allow the viewer a route of connection. An invitation to explore further. This tapestry of colours is sought from many sources and created in many forms from fine watercolour line to physical threads. As a female artist, exploration of the ‘Thread’ represents an historical, cultural and on a personal level, matriarchal symbolism.
